Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

I loved the Lovecraftian feel of the first one. I loved the shy romance between Hellboy and Liz in the first one. I loved David Hyde Pierce as Abe (WTF DUDE FRASIER GOT CANCELED, WHAT THE HELL ELSE DO YOU HAVE TO DO???)

I liked the movie OK, but I guess I just don't give a shit about faries. Give me more undying Nazi's and tentacled gods. Selma Blair seemed to play Liz a lot different. Although I did love Barry Mantalow, and the OMG SHES PREGNANT LOOK at the end. Basically, Guerillmo Del Torro loves faries and I don't. That is the only problem I had with it. I will support this franchise until they run it into the ground so, you've already got my money.

JUST NO MORE FARIES, OK???

The Dark Knight

*SPOILERS IF AFRAID GO NO FURTHER*

Ok, we good?

Now, as to The Dark Knight (which next to Iron Man and Batman Begins is probably the best comic book movie to date), I loved it. All preformances were masterful. The story was well put together and the themes of "Vigilante/Terrorist" were explored very well. Christian Bale does such a good job as Bruce Wayne/Batman. What makes his performances good is the subtlty and realism that he creates for these characters. Michael Keaton is about as subtle as his eyebrows. Michael Caine is a wonderful Alfred. Gary Oldman, fabulous.

Now to Heath Ledger as The Joker. First off, Ledger blew the doors off. He got all the grit and madness and humor that Jack Nicholson missed. Jack (even though I liked him as The Joker) was a technicolor nightmare. Ledger was believeable, dark and scary as hell. Again, the performance was subtle, but brilliant. The pencil thing? My god, funny and horrible all at the same time. I'm not so sure about the Oscar win, but definately give him a nomination for best supporting. Villians can win (at least according to No Country for Old Men), so give him the nod, and not just because he's dead, either.

I'll get a lot of crap for this, but I think they should recast The Joker. I'm still thinking about who could do it (Johnny Depp, Josh Hartnett or Orlando Bloom could be some ideas). I'll get to more on that later.

Now onto Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). Such a wonderful, hopeful and sad performance. You just root for Harvey to win even though you know he can't and that he'll be destroyed. Yes, I don't think Harvey is dead. He is going to go to Arkham, and guess who his cellmate will be? Oh yeah, The Joker and Two-Face.

I didn't really get the chemistry between Wayne/Dawes and Dent/Dawes. Rachel is just kind of a foil. A catalyst for heartbreak. Yeah, she's nice and smart but meh. I just didn't see the love.

The action was great, The Joker's plots incredible and the hospital scene?? LMAO CANDY STRIPER!!! SEE THIS MOVIE, PEOPLE
